South America onboard Viking Jupiter (february 2024)

A little food porn! I’ve already described and praised the various dining options aboard Viking (Ocean) ships quite a bit. But this article wouldn’t be complete without a quick look at the delicious dishes and special moments on board during this cruise.

World Café

One of the highlights of the World Café buffet was the special fruit buffet, all of which was of very good quality, ripe and full of flavor.

Breads still warm, soups, fish, meats, special dishes demonstrated on several occasions… nothing to complain about, everything is good and of high quality.

Special mention for the ice creams, whose flavors change every day.

Chaque soir, c’est aussi un incroyable choix de fruits de mer, sushi, sashimi…

The Restaurant

A quick overview of the main restaurant’s dishes: starters, main courses, desserts…

Mamsen’s

Mamsen’s is a small counter open at various times of the day, a bit different from other restaurants (lunch offered until 11 a.m., snacks late in the evening, etc.). The selection is limited but very striking! For example, herring in all sorts of sauces in the morning, a waffle prepared to order with the famous Nordic cheese, black bread sandwiches, etc.

Mansfredi’s

Le restaurant d’inspiration italienne.

Chef’s Table

Themed menus, which change throughout the cruise, with wine pairings.

Pool Grill

As its name suggests, this counter is open during the day, right next to the pool. Mainly hamburgers, hot dogs, etc.

At the end of the cruise, and on the way to Santiago, where our return flight to Paris will depart, the wine route is full of opportunities for visits and tastings. And some wineries also offer a restaurant, such as Vinas Casas Del Bosque, which is well worth the detour, combining a meal with a wine pairing after a tour of the winery.

And as all good things must come to an end… after a night in Santiago, back to Paris!

A fantastic cruise that comes at a price. Around €7,000 per person for 17 nights, or just over €400 per night. The overall quality of the Viking company remains top-notch, whether it’s the service, the quality of the food, and especially the itinerary and everything you learn day after day with knowledgeable and passionate guides. A luxury floating hotel that gently transports you from port to port.
